Meet the Valedictorian and Salutatorian
Staples High School has named its Valedictorian, Lucia Wang ’23, and its Salutatorian, Rebecca Schusseim ’23, both who earned the first and second highest GPA in the school. Get to know the valedictorian and salutatorian and their accomplishments.
Which class inspired you the most?
Rebecca: “AP Physics C with Mr. Scrofani & AP Lang with Ms. McGoldrick.”
Lucia: “AP Government We the People with Mrs. Kammerman.”
What’s your advice for incoming freshmen?
Rebecca: “Try striving to have balance. Classes are important but grades are not everything. It is really important to spend time with your friends and do things you like also.”
Lucia: “It’s really important to try different things. Especially coming into freshman year it can be overwhelming but try to start or join clubs in whatever you’re interested in. Once you find your passions, it will help you navigate Staples.”
What about you changed the most since freshman year?
Rebecca: “I was definitely quieter in class and I was definitely more of a rule follower freshman year. I am definitely more at ease and more willing to take risks and speak out now.”
Lucia: “I think I’ve grown more confident in myself and become more assertive and have done more in what I’m passionate about, such as starting an Actors Foundation.”
What is your favorite school lunch?
Rebecca: “Indian food & Sushi.”
Lucia: “A wrap with provolone, lettuce and turkey toasted.”
What’s your Starbucks order?
Rebecca: “Hot Chocolate.”
Lucia: “Iced toasted vanilla shaken espresso.”
