The Staples Wreckers boys’ basketball team defeated the Fairfield Ludlowe Eagles 64-51 on Monday, Feb. 12.
The Wreckers were able to put up big numbers from captain Max Sussman ’18 and Luke Murphy ’21. Sussman finished with 17 points which included a team high of five three-pointers. Murphy ended the game with 15 points and two assists.
Jake Thaw ’20 was another key asset in the win over the Eagles. Coming back from injury just a few weeks ago, he has found an important role in the starting rotation.
“Beating Ludlowe was huge because we want to finish the season on a high note,” Thaw said. “We have a real chance at riding that game into a three game winning streak to close out the season.”
Although the final score displays a 13 point loss for Fairfield Ludlowe, Jadyn Tabois managed to drop 23 points on the Wrecker defense.
When speaking with Westport News, Ludlowe head coach John Dailey blamed the loss on the Eagles’ lack of defense. “For the first time in maybe five or six game I didn’t think our defense was any good,” he said. “And that’s something that we really pride ourselves on.”
Staples finished the season with a 4-11 FCIAC record and a 5-14 overall record.
