Here we go again. Trump insulting other nations and making Americans look bad. During his speech to the United Nations on Sept. 19, Trump spoke out threatening to “totally destroy North Korea.”
As tensions between North Korea and the United States increase, so do North Korea’s nuclear threats. Although North Korean dictator, Kim Jong Un, has made many threats to American citizens, Trump’s rehash statements only hurt the cause. These comments only egg on Kim Jong Un and give him more of a reason to threaten America’s safety.
Though I disagree with Trump’s rude and threatening remarks, I understand what his comments are trying to get across. In his speech to over 100 world leaders, Trump said, “It is an outrage that some nations would not only trade with such a nation but would arm, supply and financially support a country that imperils the world.”
In response to these threats, Trump has made the decision to increase U.S. sanctions on North Korea. Trump hopes by advancing these sanctions, North Korea will end their nuclear missile testings and threats to the world. He also asked China and other big trade partners with North Korea to cut of their ties with the country in hopes that it will stop their threats.
My view on Trump’s plan is that it is a great way to prohibit North Korean violence and threats on America. While North Korea continues to pose a threat to our safety, I believe that it is crucial that we limit their access to goods and weapons. Why continue to feed into the creation of the weapons that can only hurt us in the future?
I believe that although Trump needs to watch his mouth, the creation of these sanctions can keep the world at peace and hopefully limit North Korea’s nuclear threats. It is important that our president does what’s best for our country, while still acting in a professional and mature manner.
