A few days ago, I was just scrolling through Buzzfeed, scanning for an interesting article, when my jaw dropped. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Hollywood’s most beloved couple, had called it quits.
Brangelina broke up after six kids and years and years of being together, although they were only married for two. Though they were not my favorite, they were an iconic Hollywood couple. Apparently, Jolie filed for a divorce from Pitt, because of irreconcilable differences. But, there might be more to it, because Jolie is seeking custody of all the kids, with only visitation rights for Pitt.
I am not totally on Jolie’s side in this soon-to-be custody battle. While I think she’s a phenomenal actress and I love her work, Jolie can be a bit, well, intense. Let’s not forget the time she and her second husband, Billy Bob Thornton, wore vials of each other’s blood around their necks.
Pitt has now lost two major dynamite actresses to divorce: of course Jolie, and let’s not forget Jennifer Aniston. Oh yes, back in 2005 Aniston filed for a divorce from Pitt after he confessed to her that he had fallen in love with Jolie on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Not soon after that divorce did Pitt and Jolie adopt their first child together, Zahara, sister to Maddox, who was previously adopted by Jolie.
That was a kick in the face for Aniston and her countless fans. It was a hard time for her then, but she’s been happily married to Justin Theroux since August of 2015, and there doesn’t seem to be any sort of bitterness towards Pitt and Jolie. Honestly, I think Pitt made a mistake ruining what he had with Aniston for Jolie, and she deserved to be a little bitter! But at least now, all these years later, Aniston finally gets some closure.
I don’t think Jolie and Pitt were ever right for each other. Jolie is stone-cold serious about her work, her life and keeps a clean image and reputation. Pitt, on the other hand, is outgoing, fun-loving and not nearly as serious. The two personalities don’t mesh well together, at least not like Pitt’s and Aniston’s did…
Pitt and Jolie’s wax figures have even been separated from each other at Madame Tussauds in London. So I guess it’s officially official.
