In like a lion out like a lamb
Monday, March 30, 2015- today I woke up to snow covering the ground, and to put it lightly, I was less than happy.
I’d like to think my feeling this morning was a mix of dismay and surprise but I think can only truly be described through the “Are you kidding me?” I groaned as I first spotted the cold white stuff that has become all too common.
To be fair, I do love winter. I ski every weekend and warm, cozy sweaters are by far my favorite items of clothing to wear. For me the end of winter is usually bittersweet- but this year I think even I have had enough.
This winter has been long stretches of painfully cold mornings where sitting in my car waiting for it to warm up was physically painful. These days were followed by a few days of melt and then more snow, more ice, more freezing rain. It has been a cycle of snow days, and icy roads and an unyielding sensation of a winter that felt perpetual.
And continues to be so. Winter just won’t quit.
Check the calendar: technically the start of spring was March 21; however, this morning I think my down jacket and waterproof boots disagreed.
The average snowfall for the month of March in Westport is five inches according to Wunderground. This year we’ve had 18.6 inches of snow in March alone, including the quarter inch this morning.
So to winter, I plead of you, please make March your final encore and allow our fleeces and wool socks the spring rest they have earned and deserve and allow my boat shoes and white jeans to come out of hibernation.
The saying goes “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb”-April please bring that lamb.
