In an election year with a high unemployment rate, an economy recovering at a
snail’s pace and a dysfunctionalWashington, it is almost sad that the Republicans cannot
produce a single electable alternative to Barack Obama.
This is because the GOP is the embodiment of everything that American’s hate
right now. In a year where income inequality is a major issue, and the 99% have set the
political tone, Mitt Romney’s extremely low 13.9% tax rate and his defense of the
wealthy will not play well with the general electorate.
When your frontrunner is telling large crowds “corporations are people,” makes
$10,000 bets on a whim and says that he “enjoys firing people,” you know that your
party is out of touch with the average American.
The crazy thing is that Romney is by far the strongest of all of the candidates.
Newt Gingrich, the candidate in a distant second, has more than enough baggage
with him. His multiple adultery scandals, ethics scandals and crazy plan for a moon
colony automatically disqualify him from any success in a general election.
Ron Paul, the libertarian candidate who would be the oldest President ever, is
the type of guy you could imagine, if elected, pacing up and downPennsylvania Avenue
trying to find his house.
As far as Rick Santorum goes, all one has to do is google his last name to realize
why he can’t win (Warning: do not google “santorum” if you have a weak stomach).
Get ready for four more years of Obama, because the Republicans don’t have an
alternative.
That is, of course, unless the economy gets worse and Romney squeaks out a victory, in which case
I suggest we all move to Gingrich’s moon colony. Maybe we can get a fresh political
start up there.
