When confronted with the decision of whether or not to change her last name to Humphries, Kim stuck with Kardasian in order to keep her brand name alive. Even prior to the wedding, I could tell their marriage was never destined to last and I am shocked they made it as long as 72 days.
I have been watching “Keeping Up With the Kardasians” since it first aired in 2007 and I admit I still am a big fan of the Kardasians. Like most avid followers of the show, I too wish I were apart of the Kardashian crew. Not because of their wealth and success, but rather their family dynamic. They are all crazy, in a good way, and an extremely tight nit family. Watching the show you start to feel like you actually personally know each one of them. Almost to the extent that if you saw Kourtney or Bruce walking down the street they would recognize you and you would start up a conversation.
When Kim announced at a family barbeque during one episode that her and Kris were engaged and getting married, the Kardasians all thought it was a joke and exchanged confused looks. It was only after Kim showed them the 2 million dollar wedding right that they finally believed Kim, and congratulated the two of them.
Although, despite their façade of happiness, it was pretty obvious that the family was not entirely thrilled with the idea as Kris had not formed the best relationship with the family. In particular, Kris and Khloe did not get off on the right foot and had already fought on numerous occasions.
But, at least Bruce was able to stomach the engagement seeing that Kim and Kris had been dating for at least a few months prior to the wedding, unlike Khloe and Lamar. Khloe and Lamar met weeks before they tied the knot, and recently celebrated their 2-year anniversary and still “an eternity to go,” tweeted Lamar Odom on their anniversary. Clearly the added time did not make a difference for Kim and Kris who never even made it past 6 months.
Frankly, I think that Kim was jealous of her sisters and anxious to catch up to them. Khloe’s four years younger yet happily married, and Kourtney has a baby and family of her own. Kim definitely feels the pressure at 31 years old to start her own family and Kris Humphries was the first serious relationship she’d had since Reggie Bush so it seemed like timing was right. But she was wrong.
Do I think that the 10 million dollar wedding was a publicity stunt? No. While I admit Kim did become famous for all the wrong reasons, she would never fake a marriage. The fact is she rushed into something that wasn’t ever meant to be. I think viewers will agree that there was never that spark between Kim and Kris like she had with Reggie.
On the night of the rehearsal dinner Kim and Kris didn’t even sit together because they had been fighting about where to live after the wedding; which is probably something important to think about more then a week before the wedding. Kim had never even cried in front of Kris until just days prior to the wedding. She said to Bruce one night that she had never felt comfortable enough to open up like that before.
I personally am happy that they are getting divorced because I never thought they were compatible to begin with. Kim wanted diamonds and Kris wanted dogs.
