Facebook changes its format and hell breaks loose.
Within minutes of the alterations, enraged teenagers are already broadcasting their disgust (via Facebook) about the new format.
Keep this in mind: Facebook is free. One is not required to pay a penny to activate an account. However, some people still feel entitled to rip Facebook to shreds when the company decides to make changes in its layout.
Many people complain about the fact that they are given too much information into their Facebook friends’ lives.
God forbid you are made aware that your best friend from elementary school was elected the class president or some neighbors are doing a breast cancer walk this Saturday.
If this person doesn’t care about someone else’s life, de-friending is less than 10 clicks away.
Also, Facebook now faces new competition from Google’s new social-networking site, Google Plus. By changing their site, Facebook is able to determine what users both like and dislike.
They then respond to these opinions by tweaking their features. Essentially, they are changing their website for the benefit of their users.
Yeah, that’s right haters. Look who’s the selfish one now! Whoever wrote mean posts on the Facbook group titled, “Petition Against the New Facebook” should go delete those. And while you’re at it, they should tell the other 19,063 members to do the same.
Just for clarification, I am not saying that the Facebook changes aren’t a nuisance. I am saying that I don’t see a point in people publically expressing their negative feelings all over the website that they are criticizing.
If they hate it so much, they should just not use it.
The majority of the Staples High School population has a Facebook. The majority of the Staples High School population also spends at least an hour on their Facebook each day.
That being said, I don’t think it is fair to bash a website that holds such an important role in our lives.
Once one becomes familiarized with the new layout, I am sure that Facebook will have the same control over their life that it did before the transformation.
All in all, Facebook is a website. If a website has the ability to infuriate someone, maybe that website is not a compatible one for that person.
Maybe Myspace would be more compatible? Maybe Twitter?
But then again, Twitter may not be the best option because all it is is status updates. Those constant status alerts on the new Facebook didn’t make people so happy before…
So, all of those who are hating on the new Facebook layout, please stop hating. We all know what you’ll be doing at 3 o’clock tomorrow afternoon.
