People in Westport and throughout Connecticut have been traveling to Ferris Acres Creamery in Newtown, Connecticut since 2003 for their unique homemade ice cream flavors. Recently, Thrillist, one of the top sites for “Best ofs” reviews, just awarded it the title of one of “The 31 best ice cream shops in America.”
Regarding Ferris Acres, Thrillist applauded its family roots and unique flavors such as “S’mores-style Campfire” and “PB-banana Elvis’ Dream.”
Ferris’s ingredients are produced directly from ingredients found on the family owned farm that dates back to 1894.
“The diverse assortment and number of flavors they offer is incomparable,” Biz Fay ’19 said.
The drive from Westport to Ferris Acres is approximately 35 minutes. While some may consider the travel time a drawback, Hannah Roseme ’18 said it’s one of the best parts about Ferris. “Ferris is unique because it’s a road trip, so it makes the whole experience a lot more fun and more of an event.”
Roseme was unable to choose a favorite flavor, noting she likes getting something new every time. “There’s too many flavors for me to repeat one,” Roseme said. However, Fay said her favorite is “M J Tell,” which is a mint ice cream with chocolate chunks and green sprinkles.
