On 1595 Post Road East, affordable housing is being built. The land, which used to be a trailer park, has been in transition for seven months after the owner got the okay to proceed on June 23, 2014. In total, there have been 300-400 people building 14 houses which, in the end, will host about 38 families in total.
Construction men work on building the houses on March 13.
These are some of the houses towards the back of the property that are already housing families even though the complex is not finished yet.
These are some of the bigger houses which can hold four families. The bigger houses similar to these take up most of the complex. There are also four smaller apartments, which are different styles than the houses, that are in the process of being built.
The Community Center is a building located in the middle of the complex. Carl one of the constructions workers on site, discussed the structure as being very important to the people living in the apartments because it has a, “laundry room, three offices, [and] a kitchen.”
Carl also said there are a lot of families with children. Now kids who would not normally go to a school district like Westport, have the opportunity to.
A house this size, can host up to four families. Each family can live in either a few stories of smaller space, or have a bigger floor all to themselves.
Many families are getting comfortable in their new homes by putting up decorations outside the house as spring is right around the corner.
The construction staff is hard at work hopeful to complete buinding the complex by the expected opening in Oct 2015.
