Students crowded around near the entrance to Staples yesterday when they saw what appeared to be hot water pouring down the front of the school on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Water showered down, creating large amounts of steam as it hit the freezing cement.
Principal John Dodig confirmed that a pipe burst somewhere around the front of the building yesterday. Dodig said that the building is designed with the pipes outside, and the extreme cold temperatures from the past few days caused the pipe to burst. Maintenance staff is still investigating which pipe broke, as well as if it was the same pipe that burst again last night around 7 o’clock, or if a second pipe was damaged.
Dodig said he thought the problem would be addressed by the end of the day today. For now, there is caution tape near the main entrance where yesterday water poured down.
