Like many of his classmates, Angus Armstrong ’13 is a proponent of the idea that “because all
seniors have finished college apps by the time second semester starts, and many have already been
accepted to schools, there is little motivation to be in school.”
Big Gus, as he is known, believes more important tasks should take precedence over schoolwork
after applications have been handed in.
“Instead of going to class, second semester seniors could be getting jobs to pay for expenses
during college,” said Armstrong.
Still, Brendan Burris ’13 received an acceptance letter from Xavier University, stating that his admission
was, “contingent on his final grades.”
Statements such as this force students to keep working hard in fear of losing a spot at the college
of their choice. However, despite this added pressure, Burris says that the time and effort he spends on
assignments will probably decrease during second semester.
The general feeling about second semester was summed up by Noah Bender ’13, who does not yet
know where he will be going to college. When asked if he planned to work as hard in the second semester
as in the first, he thought for a moment, then, with a slight grin on his face, turned and said, “Well, kind
of.”
