On Thursday, May 10, the Staples community came together on Facebook to support Justin Slosberg ’15, who has recently been diagnosed with leukemia. The public group, “Stay Strong Justin,” has grown to include over 1,000 people in the span of about 20 hours. In response to all the support in the group, Slosberg posted:
“I’ve never felt more loved in my entire life. I am absolutely speechless. There are indisputably NO words for how beautiful the fact that Facebook can bring everyone together is.”
In addition to expressing their support online, students hung a poster outside of the cafeteria for all to sign. The 15-foot sheet of plain white paper said “We Love You Justin.” By the end of the day, the entire poster was covered in notes and signatures from the Staples community.
The notes included many phrases such as: “Stay strong,” “Get better,” “We miss you so much,” and “You can beat this.”
Some students have organized for the whole school to show their continued support by wearing purple on Monday, May 14.
“Justin likes the color purple and it is a way to unite the school and show our support,” said Kristen Onorato ’15, who is helping to organize the effort.
