There was a fire drill at approximately 11:42 a.m. this morning, Jan. 11. Circuits and lights in the cafeteria and exhaust fans in the cooking area shut down, resulting in smoke in the cafeteria area.
According to Principal John Dodig, the custodial staff contacted the Westport Fire Department, which recommended an evacuation until the building could be cleared of electrical hazards.
None were found.
“It was just minorly inconvenient,” Dodig said, “And I like looking at the glass half full—we’ll use that as our mandatory January fire drill.”
Students and teachers were back in the building by 12:00 p.m., and the school day resumed without change.
