The last time it snowed in October was 1995, but the 16-year hiatus may be over.
Student meteorologist Jacob Meisel ’13 has forecasted a potential snowstorm on Oct. 29. If snow accumulates to over a half inch, that could set a record. However, rumors of snowfall on Oct. 27 can be discounted, as if anything, there would be minimal flurries following rain.
“It’s really weird that we could have snow in October. I’m not complaining, but it would be nice for fall to go on a little longer. After Black Friday it’s like, ‘Give me snow!’ But before Halloween it’s like, “What?!” Emily Garber ’13 said.
Meisel, however, is excited for the chance of early snow—especially because he’s the one calling it.
“Personally, I love snow this early. It really spices up the year…snow and inclement weather increase the relevancy of weather to everyone, thus boosting my hits,” Meisel said.
And he wastes no time. At just mid-fall, Meisel has already predicted a wild winter, and many school cancellations.
“The best advice I can give is to be ready,” Meisel said.
