Steve Jobs, Apple Co-Founder and former CEO has died, Apple said.
The company released a statement regarding Jobs on their website:
“Apple has lost a creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories, and condolences, please email [email protected].”
Although Apple did not release the location or cause of Jobs’ death, the mastermind behind the company has been publicly battling pancreatic cancer since 2004.
On Aug. 24, 2011 Jobs announced he was stepping down from his position as chief executive.
“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know,” Jobs wrote in his letter of resignation. “Unfortunately, that day has come.”
Jobs’ death comes one day after the release of the iPhone 4s.
