The Staples High School newspaper, Inklings, has been named a High School Newspaper Crown Finalist for the 2011 Crown Awards by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA).
Inklings will be awarded either a Gold or Silver Crown Award during CSPA’s 87th Annual Convention in March 2011 at Columbia University.
A total of 1,434 newspapers, magazines, and yearbooks published during the 2009-10 school year participated in the Awards Program.
The Crown Awards are given out annually and are the highest awards awarded by the CSPA for a student print or online newspaper.
“It’s amazing to see the staff work so hard everyday and see what we can accomplish,” said executive editor Petey Menz ’11.
Last year, 43 high school newspapers won the Silver Crown and 13 won the Gold Crown. This year a total of 51 crowns will be awarded in 2011.
Last year, the Inklings website was nominated for the Silver Crown along with 15 other high schools.
Inklings plans to travel to Columbia University in March to accept their award and to find out whether they won the Gold or Silver Crown.
