Staples’ Loeffler Field was vandalized at some time before school on Nov. 18 when an as yet unknown individual or group of individuals forced open a gate and drove a car over the field, destroying several large areas of grass. As of yet, police do not have any information as to who committed the act of vandalism.
“It’s cowardly and it’s horrific and that the way I feel about all vandalism,” Principal John Dodig said. “To destroy someone else’s property on the sly is reprehensible.”
Staples varsity soccer player Sean Gallagher ’11 agreed with Dodig.
“I think it was disrespectful to the program,” Gallagher said.
Dodig also said that the school is looking into vandalism of other Staples fields on the same night. According to Dan Woog’s Staples Soccer blog, the baseball field was also damaged.
According to Westport Police Captain Sam Arciola, the vandalism is being actively investigated by the police, who are following all leads. In addition, a $500 reward is being offered by the Staples soccer booster club, the Top of the Hill Club, to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of those involved.
Look for Inklings coverage of this event in the near future.
