On Monday, Nov. 16, Facebook introduced the new Facebook Messages system, due to be rolled out for all users in the near future. This new system integrates Facebook messaging, e-mail, chat, and instant messaging, and it has been implemented for a randomly-selected small subset of users that can invite up to two other friends to try out the new service.
With the new system users will receive their own @facebook.com e-mail address, based on their Facebook usernames. Once someone e-mails a user’s Facebook e-mail address, the message shows up, along with all Facebook messages, in one unified inbox.
According to Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, “Messages is not email. There are no subject lines, no cc, no bcc, and you can send a message by hitting the Enter key.” Although it integrates e-mail related features, Facebook Messages is more intuitive than the current solutions available.
