On Feb. 26 the winners for the Staples Spectacular Student Challenge were announced. The team consisting of Nick Cion ’10, Annie Harnick ’10, Kat Kreiger ’10, Lexa Koenig ’10 and Lena Ziskin ’10 won first place and $5000 in scholarships.
The second place team with Matt Greenberg ’10, Eric Lubin ’11, Todd Lubin ’11, Naveen Murali ’10 and Joe Stopper ’11 was awarded $3500. David Haswell ’12, Robert Perry ’12 Matt Silver ’12 Connie Zhou ’12 Issac Stein ’12 came in third place and received $1500.
The challenge took place on Jan. 28. The various teams were asked to determine which of three environmentally friendly strategies was best for the town.
The three strategies were: growing food locally, initiating household strategies, and implementing photovoltaic system at Bedford and Staples. All teams worked from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and compiled a ten page paper.
The top 5 teams presented to a panel at the Staples auditorium on Feb. 9. The winning teams received their checks at a ceremony on March 8.
