On Friday Dec. 5, five Staples students were arrested on school premises with various charges relating to the possession of illegal substances, in some cases with intent to sell or purchase the substances. All five have been suspended, and some face expulsion.
Principal John Dodig could give no more specifics of the incident, or of the legal charges the students will face outside of school. He did express his incredulity that students would attempt this behavior in school, pointing out the “dire” consequences, and adding that the school does not involve itself in their private lives off campus. “There’s plenty of time between 2:30 [P.M.] and bedtime to do whatever you want to do, and it’s between you and your parents,” said Dodig, adding that it seemed “incredible” that a student would still risk being caught in school.
