On Sunday, Nov. 19, the eighth grade PAL football team wrapped up their undefeated season with a 14-7 win over Ridgefield to capture the PAL championship.
“It was incredible,” receiver Benji Titlebaum ’22 said. “In all my years of playing sports, I’ve never went undefeated and it was just awesome. The fact that our last year we were undefeated champions is something I’ll never forget.”
The Wreckers initially went down 7-0 after Ridgefield scored early, but running back Nick Armentano ’22 and quarterback Ryan Thompson ’22 each scored a touchdown to give the Wreckers the lead.
“We were losing for the first time. It was nerve-racking,” Armentano said. “But it was an amazing experience.
Throughout the regular season and the playoffs, Westport outscored their opponents 262-56. The closest game they played throughout the regular season was when they beat New Canaan by a margin of 13.
The team got a taste of Staples football when they were honored with a video presentation at halftime of the Thanksgiving Day Staples football game against Greenwich.
Most of the Wreckers are excited to continue their football success at Staples next year.
“I’ve always dreamed about playing football at Staples since I was little watching my brother play,” Titlebaum said. “It’s cool to think that that could someday be me.”
