In an emphatic win that left the crowd with many exciting moments, the Staples girls’ varsity soccer team beat Bridgeport Central with a score of six to zero. For Staples, Madison Galley ’20, Alex Sprouls ’19, Marlo Van Der Ahe ’20, Isabel Honda ’19, Cece Marino ’19, and Ashley Wright ’19 all scored a goal. “Overall, I think we played well and had great possession throughout the second half,” Galley said. At the end of the first half, the score was three to zero. Almost everyone that was called up for this game got playing time, and the Staples Wreckers played great soccer. In the second half, Staples maintained possession for almost the entire half, trying to get everyone involved. The defense stepped up and made many impressive plays to secure a shutout for goalie Camryn Ragland ’18. “ I think we really dominated in the second half and maintained good possession through the whole field. Every player worked extremely hard on the field and our win was well deserved,” Handa said. The Staples Wreckers are off to a great start winning meaningful games against Warde, Trinity Catholic, Danbury, Wilton and Bridgeport Central. “I think this year is going to be one of our best. We have one of the strongest and deepest teams in the FCIAC and it’s been a really good first start to the season,” goalie Anna Sivinski ’18 said. With such a dominant game in the books, the Wreckers look to take on
their next opponent, Greenwich (0-5). The game will be held at Greenwich on Tuesday, September 26.
