Boys’ Cross Country Dominates Dual Meet
The Staples Boys’ Cross Country team continued their dominance this fall season as they beat Ridgefield, Darien and Brien McMahon high schools. So far, the Wreckers have won every one of their dual meets, meets against fellow FCIAC opponents and have placed highly at coveted regional meets. However, with the FCIAC championships upcoming on Wednesday, October 21, the Wreckers dominant performance was a great preparation for such a big race.
“We’re happy with how the race went and how we’ve been racing. We beat one of our biggest rivals in the FCIAC from last year so we’re feeling pretty confident. We’re undefeated and ranked number 1 in the state so hopefully we can stay consistent and win fciacs,” Zak Ahmad ‘17 said.
Like their season, the Wreckers absolutely dominated their opponents as Chase Gornbein ‘16 won with a time of 17:05. Ahmad, Brandon Harrington ‘17, Ben Foster ‘16 and James Lewis ‘16 were close behind as the boys’ cross country team had the top seven runners in the event.
As playoffs are approaching quickly, for the Wreckers, winning is becoming an expectation.
“At this point winning is becoming a habit,” Lewis said. “We can’t wait for playoff meets.”
