The Staples girl’s swim team finished their remarkable season capping off a sixth place finish at the Connecticut State Open Meet on Sept. 16th. Not only that, but the team also finished sixth at FCIAC’s and fifth at CIAC’s.
“The main factor for our team’s success has been team spirit. It has provided the girls on the team the confidence they need in order to do well,” Mia Bullock ’16 said, who has set numerous schools records only as a sophomore.
There are already three athletes that are committed to a division one college for swimming. This can be contributed to the constant team spirit that is palpable by all of the swimmers and divers on the team.
Specifically, captain Verity Abel ’14 had an impressive season of her own. She set multiple school records and played a vital role in helping the team exceed the expectations that were set before the season even began.
Confidence has played a huge role in the success of the swimmers.“We had a lot of girls this year that improved significantly and all they needed was a boost of confidence to make them believe they could do it what they were able to do,” Bullock ’16 said.
That is why losing many of the varsity swimmers will remain a challenge for the girls swim team for the upcoming season.
