On a cloudy and mild Thursday afternoon, the Staples girls’ soccer team fell to Greenwich. The final score was 2-0.
The team was missing senior captains, Meghan Lonergan ’14 and Gea Mitas ’14, along with starting goalkeeper Mary Bennewitz ’15. All of the injuries seemed to take a toll on the team’s performance.
There were only several shots on goal, and none were particularly close to going in. Nonetheless, the players still looked at the game with a glass half-full attitude.
“We did pretty well, considering we were missing so many starters,” Addy Fowle ’15 said.
Though it was a tumultuous game, the Lady Wreckers are still optimistic for the rest of the season.
“Offensively, we still have some work to do with working the ball up through the middle and finishing our opportunities. With only four games left in the season, we’re looking to make a strong finish,” Charlotte Rossi ’17 said.
