The Staples Boys’ Varsity Tennis team is currently tied with Greenwich for number one in the state. The team is undefeated, with a record of 11-0 this season.
While players like how the season is going, they know that there are still factors they must overcome.
“The biggest challenge going forward will be mental toughness and staying healthy,” Coach Kris Hrisovulos said. “We have to keep wanting to get better and challenging ourselves.”
According to captain, Jake Hirschberg’13, “Right now, there are a bunch of players who are hurt. In a sport where only nine play, it makes a huge difference.”
The team plays Greenwich this Monday, May 6, and whoever wins that match will be alone at number one.
“The key to beating Greenwich is going to be with our 3-5 singles players and with our doubles teams,” Hirschberg’13 said. “We have really tough matches at 1 and 2, but a strong line up at 3-5 singles and two strong doubles teams that have good chances.”
Many players are confident that the team will continue to succeed.
“The season has been going really well so far,” Josh Moskovitz ’15 said. “We look forward to continuing our streak.”
