They have helped win Super Bowls, World Series, Stanley Cups, and National Championships. At Kyle Field, home to the Aggies of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, they are referred to as “The 12th Man.” The crowd at any sporting event is extremely important, and this year, a couple of seniors and one freshman created something that they think will bring the most intense fan base Staples has ever seen. Jake Felman ‘11, Andrew Felman ’14, Luke Yeager ‘11, and Dylan Meissner ‘11 came up with the idea and design (with help from senior Brian Wolgast) of “Wrecker Wrags,” which are rally towels.
“We wanted to do something different than the usual t-shirts in the crowd,” Felman ‘11 said. Quarterback Chester Pajolek ’11 said that “When the crowd gets loud, it’s inspirational, and it wills us to play better.” When asked how the towels would benefit the intensity of the crowd, Pajolek added that it should “peak excitement.”
“We want that intimidation factor,” Felman ’14 said. “Something that you notice right away.” Jake remarked.
Not only do they think it will be extremely successful, but it should help propel fans to cheer the Wreckers on the road. “We definitely think the towels will be a factor at away games,” Yeager said. The towels should play a huge role in the quest for not only the FCIAC tournament, but the state championships as well.
Not only can you support Staples with the purchase of a Wrecker Wrag, but part of proceeds go to breast cancer research, so even if you can’t make it to the games, you can still help. The SuperFan towels won’t just be present at football games. Yeager expects that the towels will carry “to basketball and other sports, and still be equally successful.”
Moreover, the chance to be further involved in the Staples community and to become a bigger part of this united team is a great experience. Towels are available for purchase by contacting either Felmans, Yeager or Meissner.
