Cheered on by enthusiastic fans, the Staples Wreckers soundly defeated the Fairfield Ludlowe Falcons at the 2010 Homecoming football game 35-10. Key players included running back Tyler Jacobs ’11, wide receiver Jason Mawicke ’11, and quarterback Chester Pajolek ’11, who was taken out during the game due to a leg injury and replaced by freshman Jack Massie ’14.
In the early minutes of the game, neither team was able to gain a clear advantage; though the Falcons won the coin toss, they quickly fumbled and the Wreckers got the ball at the 15 yard line. However, soon after that, Staples fumbled and Ludlowe recovered the ball. After that, Jacobs intercepted a Ludlowe pass and Staples once again had the ball. This time, however, Staples was unable to get in the end zone and Mawicke was brought in to punt;
Finally, with four minutes and 39 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Jacobs scored the first touchdown of the game. Mawicke then successfully kicked the extra point bringing the score to 7-0,
Staples continued its lead during the second quarter, with Jacobs scoring a 71-yard touchdown and Mawicke again executing a successful field goal. The score was 14-3 at the end of the first half.
Staples’ lead grew more decisive in the second half, as Staples scored twice in the third quarter and once in the fourth. Though Ludlowe was able to score once during the third quarter, it didn’t keep them from losing to the Wreckers- the final score was 35-10.
