The Wreckers’ Football team kicked off its 2010 season with a commanding 31-16 win over the Trinity Catholic Crusaders on Sept. 18.
The Wreckers played stout defense throughout the entire game racking up two fumble recoveries from captain Chris Coyne ’11 and Joey Zelkowitz ’13 along with an interception by Greg Strauss ’13. Staples also tackled very well throughout the course of the game, led by linebackers captain Matt Yeager ’11 and Greg Lewis ’11.
On offense, the Wreckers struggled establishing the inside running game in the first half. But on its third drive, thanks to a gutsy call from Coach Marce Petroccio to go for it on fourth down, they scored on two runs from quarterback Chester Pajolek ’11. Along with a rushing touchdown, Pajolek also threw for three touchdown passes, one to Jason Mawike ’11, Jon Heil ’12 and Robby Herman ’11.
The Wreckers’ next test is against the Norwalk Bears on Sept. 24 at Testa Field in Norwalk.
