Danny Hirschberg ‘11 capped off an undefeated season by winning the class LL state championship Thursday.
Hirschberg, who had lost in the finals of the tournament last year, trounced Fairfield Prep’s Tom O’Brien, 6-2, 6-0 to claim his first individual state title. The junior did not drop a set in the entire tournament.
Staples, who went 18-0 in the regular season, settled for 3rd place in the state playoffs with 18 points after losing in the finals of the FCIAC championship.
Greenwich finished in first with 25 point, followed by Fairfield Prep in second with 23 points.
Staples will look to continue its success next year, as it will retain four out of its five starting singles players.
