Staples gymnastics competed against Fairfield Warde and Fairfield Ludlowe in a tri-meet, at Weston High School. The Feb. 2 meet was also the team’s senior day.
The Staples Gymnasts came to school decked out in their senior-day shirts, ready to celebrate. The team’s only senior, Emma Vaimberg, had the celebration all to herself. Some may think the team may suffer from a lack of leadership with only one senior on the team, yet Emma’s teammates strongly disagree.
“It was sad to see that it was Emma’s last home meet, but she really is a major contributor to our team. It is a little weird only having one senior to look up to unlike last year, but she carries herself really well, and it’s always so helpful,” said tri-captain, Zoe Heller ’11.
The Wreckers succeeded in a victory over Warde, but fell short to Ludlowe. At the end of the meet, the team scored an overall of 121.7 points. Most of the girls were consistent with what they have been scoring all season.
“I know that I did my best, and considering the hard judges we had this meet, the whole team did well,” said tri-captain, Kara Tricarico ’11.
In the next few meets, the gymnasts want to improve on their bar routines. Future practices will be focused on sharpening these routines.
The girls’ season is almost over, and their next meet will be on Feb. 4 at Westhill High School. The gymnasts are also looking forward to FCIACs, the date is still to be determined.
