Remy Nolan ’12 lit up the scoreboard Jan. 5 against a struggling Westhill Vikings team. Nolan scored 16 points, the team high, which led the team to a 49-37 victory.
“Every game we can have a new hero,” Coach Ed Huydic said after his 401st career win. “Today Remy had a career day and next game it could be someone different.”
The depth of the Wrecker roster is a strong suit for the team. In addition to Nolan’s impressive performance, Mary Kate Vansant ’11 and Captain Suvi Puritpattarapan ’10 had a supporting 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Westhill team, who fell to 3-4 with the loss last night, struggled in the first half, only accumulating 10 points. Ginny LaFauci led the team with 15 points followed by Anne Hawthorn who had 13. The Westhill team is now on a two game losing streak with the 70-32 loss against Pomperaug.
After a turnover filled first quarter that ended in a 6-6 tie, the Wreckers hit two big three pointers to propel them on a 17-4 run to end the half. Although both teams played evenly in the second half, the Wreckers huge second quarter put the Vikings in too big of a hole to come out of.
While neither team shot very well from the field—Staples shot 30 percent to Westhill’s 38 percent–Staples proved to be the aggressor on both ends of the floor. The Wreckers attempted 22 free-throws, making 15, while the Vikings only attempted 12. The Lady Wreckers were also able to create a lot of fast break opportunities by accumulating a number of steals from their full-court press.
