On Oct 13, Staples came in third, beaten by Ridgefield, first and Danbury, second at a home meet.
The meet consisted of four schools, Danbury, Ridgefield, Stamford and Staples with both Staples and Ridgefield competing for their LL division.
The boy’s varsity race began with a mosh pit of a start that flattened out into a group of mostly Ridgefield runners with some Staples and Danbury runners right behind them.
Coming back onto the track for the last 300 meters, three Ridgefield runners were in front followed by two Danbury and one Staples. The Danbury and Staples runners were unable to advance on the Ridgefield runners, giving Ridgefield the sweep and the division.
Laddie Lawrence was disappointed loosing to two important competeters. “It’s not so good. We lost to both, though I’m encouraged because two runners had a bad run” Lawrence said. “We have run better, and we will run well”
The girls’ varsity began 10 minutes later. The race began with a similar bunched start and a slight trip up in the back. The first runners to leave the track for the back course belonged to Ridgefield and Danbury, with Staples close behind. On the return run, Ridgefield and Danbury held the first five spots with Staples following after.
The victory won Ridgefield the division. Staples, now second is looking to rebound from the losses in the FCIAC on Oct. 22 held at Waveny Park in New Canaan.
