The 56th Grammy Awards took place last Sunday, Jan. 27. This was a year of mash-ups when the classics met the sounds of today’s music with artists like Madonna mixing with Macklemore, while others like Lorde and Taylor Swift went solo. Of all the 18 performances that graced the stage, five stood out as the most incredible ones of the night. For each of the next five days, one of the best performances from the Grammys will be posted.
2. Beyoncé and Jay-Z perform “Drunk In Love”
It is safe to say that Beyoncé has taken over the world. I guess you could call her Queen Bey.
It was only fit for her to open up the entire awards show. She performed “Drunk In Love” flawlessly showing all her confidence in a wonderfully minimalist fashion; all she needed was a chair and some strobes to let everybody know that she is the real deal.
As she sat there spinning on her chair, the audience was mesmerized by not only her performing skills but also for her incredible vocal abilities that surpass the lyrics of this song, specifically the repetition of the word “surfboard”.
Ruby Dener ‘16, a dedicated Beyoncé fan, was not disappointed either. Dener says, “Beyoncé is and will always be my idol. This performance was incredible, flawless and made me want to be Blue Ivy more than anything.”
To make this performance even better, Beyoncé welcomed husband and singer on the track, Jay-Z to the stage. Clad in his tuxedo, the rapper did his verse and ultimately proved that he and his wife are Hollywood’s power couple and they will melt your heart.
Thank you Beyoncé for showing that not every performance needs a giant horse or a trapeze act. If you have the voice, the moves and you happen to be Beyoncé Knowles I think you’re well on your way to being the hottest pop star out there.
