Dear Underclassmen,
I know you wish you had your own area in the cafeteria and await the day that you can sit in the senior section. Trust me though, the famous senior section isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
I thought it would be awesome to have our own section to chill out, look awesome, talk about college and soak up all the sunlight. But it’s not that. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I miss the regular section.
Let’s start with the tables.
At the round tables that take up most of the cafeteria, you have your own seat, and it’s easy to hear and talk to everyone.
But in the senior section, you’re sharing a bench with everyone. A lot of the time you have to move down for someone to squeeze in next to you.
So once you’re all bunched together, it’s very awkward and almost impossible to have a conversation with someone from across the table. Most of the time there are about five simultaneous conversations at one table since you can only talk to the people across from you.
Then there’s the proximity to the actual food. I am a second semester senior. Obviously, I want to slack and do as little work as possible. This, of course, includes less walking.
It would be convenient if I could actually see the smoothie line, and whether or not it’s long. But from the senior section, this is nearly impossible.
In order to see if the smoothie line is worth going to, you have to get up, and walk 100 meters to even see the line. If there isn’t, then you have to trek the final meters to the line and wait even longer. With my senioritis kicking in, this is quite a problem.
The moral of this story is you can never really know what you have until it’s gone. So underclassmen, cherish your cafeteria sections during your time there.
If you need any further advice, you know where not to find me.
Yours truly,
Cole Tessler
