Stew Leonard’s annual Harvest & Halloween drive-through is in full action. There’s no better way to welcome the fall season than to take a COVID friendly drive down memory lane.

Throughout the craziness of the past two years, fall activities have been brushed aside and forgotten about. But this year, Staples students are ready to return to the beloved spooky season and celebrate the fall events they missed out on. This includes getting to ring in Halloween with friends. With autumn in full swing, students begin to make plans as to how they are going to rekindle their love for fall activities.

Cameron Retcho ’23 discusses how she will engage in her favorite fall activities and the difference between this year’s and last year’s fall.

“Last year, it was much harder to coordinate safe fall activities due to COVID-19,” Retcho said. “This year I am excited to return to my favorite fall activity, apple picking, in a safe manner.”

Activities such as apple picking, pumpkin carving, visiting haunted houses and baking fall inspired treats are what make fall such a festive time. There are so many COVID-19 safe places that offer activities that people of all ages can enjoy. Silverman’s Farm offers apple picking on the weekdays, scenic tractor rides and a large display of everyone’s favorite baked goods including apple cider donuts, pie and fresh fruit.

“Fall is my favorite time of year because I love going to haunted houses with my friends,” Jack Murphy ’22 said. “My favorite haunted house is the haunted graveyard at Lake Compounce because you never know what to expect. ”

Staples students love fall for a variety of  reasons. Ella Moore ’25 loves autumn for the festive decorations and getting to see how everyone interprets the season.

“Seeing everyone’s decorations always gets me in the mood for fall,” Moore said. “ So this year I am going to get in the spirit by shopping for fall related items.”

Moore plans to take a trip to Michaels Craft Store to look at the assortment of spider webs, skeletons and light up decorations.

So as the leaves begin their foliage, expect to see Staples students indulging in everything that this season has to offer.
