While many Staples students may just see a new addition to the Staples Community, the new nurse, Kristen McGrath, has actually walked these halls many times. McGrath graduated from Staples in 1988, so she is very familiar with the school, even though it looked very different when she went here.
“I know a lot of people already just from being from Westport and growing up here,” McGrath said. “Chef Grace and I went to school together, so it is great having some familiar faces.”
McGrath came all the way from next door: Bedford Middle School. She used to work as the health assistant there for 5 years before she switched to Weston. However, as soon as the position opened up for a nurse at Staples she couldn’t help but take the job.
“It is nice because I know a lot of Staples kids that went to Bedford,” McGrath said. The adjustment wasn’t difficult for her because she just moved to a bigger school in the same district.
“I don’t have any complaints other than it is a lot bigger than Bedford,” McGrath said. “So there are a lot more people to get to know.” McGrath explained that her experience has been so far so good and everyone has been extremely friendly.
“I’m pretty easy going so I think I am very easy to talk to as far as the students go,” McGrath said. “I’m also the same size as the students, maybe smaller, so I’m not intimidating at all.”
It was always McGrath’s goal to end up back at Staples and she succeeded. “I’m really looking forward to it,” McGrath said. “And am happy to be back.”
