Mac Miller’s Performance at Governors Ball stands out to Staples attendees
Governor’s Ball Music Festival at Randall’s Island Park is a very popular event among Staples students. With bands performing from all different sounds of music, there is something there for everyone.
This year some of the top bands and artists that performed included; The Strokes, The Killers, Mac Miller, and Miguel.
“My favorite artist this year was hands down Mac Miller, I just loved being in the crowd and I am a big fan of his music,“ Benji Malowitz ’18 said.
Mac Miller performed at 5:45pm-6:45 on Saturday night playing some of his top songs: “Donald Trump”, “Diablo”, “Weekend” and “Nikes on My Feet”.
The crowd was going wild during his performance of Donald Trump. With Trump being a big name right now, Mac Miller and fans voiced their feelings about the presidential candidate with very explicit lyrics and sayings.
“It was unbelievable. Probably one of most exciting moments of this year,” Alex Piccolino ’18 said.
Though Mac Miller did not perform on the main stage of the event, he still drew a crowd of over 500 people to listen to him. Not only did he lure people with his voice and tunes but also with the bright and amazing colored stage lights, with abstract art of him posted on a 30 foot tall screen set next to two large speakers and a DJ table.
“I’m not particularly a fan of Mac, but his performance was really awesome to watch. It almost made up for the fact that I missed Kanye on Sunday,” Maddie Jones ’17 said.
Unfortunately, day three of the festival was cancelled because of weather conditions. Kanye West, Death Cab for Cutie, and Chvrches were a few of the top performers planning to play that day. Though they did not see the stage at Governor’s Ball, many artists scattered throughout New York venues to play for their fans who had hoped to see them that day.
Governor’s Ball will be back at Randall’s Island next year, but the date and lineup is yet to be announced. Randall’s Island will also be home to the upcoming music festival Panorama, which will be from July 22 to 24 with headliners Arcade Fire, Kendrick Lamar, and LCD Soundsystem.
