Being single on Valentine’s Day told through GIFs
It’s Feb. 14 and yes, it’s that day all singles have been dreading: Valentine’s Day, a day where single women and men are constantly reminded of what it’s like to be left without a significant other. There’s nothing lovelier than thinking about couples holding hands and exchanging chocolates and flowers while the hopeless romantics who are hopelessly without love eat whole boxes of chocolate in bed and binge watch every cheesy romance movie known to man.
On top of having to bear Valentine’s Day alone, those hopeless romantics also have to deal with listening to their best friends talk about all the planning they’ve done to make Valentine’s Day perfect for the “love of their life.” Even though their blabbering feels like eternity and all they want to do is walk away, they have to act like they really care about their friend’s relationship and all the great things they have done for the one they love.
While spending the day lying in bed while eating a of a tub of ice cream, there’s a knock upon the bedroom door, and who is it? None other than a concerned mother. She walks in with that look on her face since she knows what the empty cartons of ice cream on the bed means. But what she doesn’t understand is that ice cream fills the your empty void of Valentine’s Day love and festivities. Nevertheless, she still feels her motherly need to take the ice cream off the bed and say “it’s not the end of the world.”
After the lecture from Mother on how great it is to be single and that “you’re her lovely valentine,” everything’s all “better” now that she came to the rescue.
But really, on the inside, Valentine’s day as single girl could not be worse. The only time that someone claims they’re okay with being single on Valentines Day is when they get the sympathetic look after they broke up with someone, and they’re reassuring someone that they are doing “okay.” But thank you mom, it’s the thought that counts.
Happy V-Day to all the singles out there. We’ll get through this together.
