1) Suzanne Collins’ most recent, “Hunger Games” trilogy is at the top of Julia Roberts’ list, for its cultural significance and universal appeal. Ever since Collins exploded onto the scene with her “Underland Chronicles” series, she has been known for her quick wit and biting intelligence. Roberts explains, “the series’ appeal ranges from middle school students to my husband.”
2) Taking a step in a completely opposite direction, we look at Roberts’ second choice as the hottest book in America, “Zeitoun.” Written by lauded author Dave Eggers, “Zeitoun” makes her list for its relevance and readability. The book is a non-fiction account of a Syrian-American man who stays in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina to protect his painting and contracting company. “Its topical, relevant, and incredible. Also, it’s a quick read,” Roberts says. Recently, renowned director Jonathan Demme has committed to making a “Zeitoun” movie, to be released in 2011.
