Actor, Mark Wahlberg, and his family opened a restaurant just outside of Boston in 2011 serving the comfort food that is frequently served at their own family dinner table. Since then, they have opened up restaurants in 14 U.S. states and Canada. One of their most recent locations is nearby in the Trumbull mall.
When I walked into the restaurant, the atmosphere was very modern with a noticeable take-out counter. The tables had comfy, deep benches, and while reclining, I could see the names of many Mark Wahlberg movies on the ceiling.
For drinks, they have homemade frappes with farm fresh milk and ice cream. I had the Black & White which is the most popular flavor. The shake was good, but it wasn’t nearly as delicious as the food I tasted. I first tried the Thanksgiving Turkey Burger, which came with stuffing, mayo, roasted butternut squash and saucy orange-cranberry concoction. It felt like Thanksgiving in February and I loved every bite.
I also tasted the Smoked Bacon Mac ‘N Cheese which I personally didn’t enjoy. This type of macaroni and cheese isn’t really my thing because it’s not the traditional flavor..
Next, I sampled Donnie’s favorite, the BBQ Bacon burger, and it was one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. The cheddar was the perfect cheese and the avocado was a great, creamy touch.
Last, I tried The Super Melt burger and super melted it was. I’m a big fan of caramelized onions, but was somewhat skeptical of the “government cheese” ingredient. To my pleasant surprise, it was actually very delicious. Their family ate it because they didn’t have much money, but it perfectly tops the burger with gooey cheese filling all the nooks and crannies.
Although the service at Wahlburgers was not impressive and the wait for food was a little long, the food definitely makes up for it. I give this restaurant four out of five stars.
