After almost two years of eager anticipation from Star Wars fans world wide since the last episode in Star Wars Saga was released, Lucasfilm finally released their trailer for the series most recent film, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
Directed by Rian Johnson, the film continues to build on the story of Episode VIII: The Force Awakens with main characters Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega). An uncharacteristically aged Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) appears to have a major part in the film as well. Star Wars fans are also ecstatic to see the return of Luke Skywalker.
“Two years ago in ‘The Force Awakens’ I remember when Luke Skywalker came on the screen at the end and the whole theatre just started cheering. He is definitely my favorite character,” Stephen Niver ’18 said.
While the heroes of the story dominate the trailer, no Star Wars film would be complete without a polarizing villain. With the return of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” looks to add another name to the Mount Rushmore of super villains, joining the likes of Darth Vader and Darth Maul.
Like any Star Wars movie, the box office predictions are already anticipated to be very high coming off the prequel “Episode VII: The Force Awakens” performance, which grossed one billion dollars in record time of only 12 days.
Tickets are already available for pre-order sale nationwide. For Star Wars fans like Brian Gray ’18, the December 15 release date could not come any sooner.
“I have been waiting for this movie for a long time now,” Gray said. “Nothing gets me more excited than a new Star Wars movie.”
