Secondary to a girl’s wedding dress, her high school prom dress could be the one of the most important dresses she will ever wear, making finding the perfect dress a necessity.
Westport has a variety of stores that provide outlets for prom dress shopping such as Winged Monkey, Splash of Pink, and recently added Free People. “I did not get a chance to go to Free People, but I did find a dress at Splash of Pink,” Sophie Smith ’18 said. “Splash of Pink’s dresses are very bright and ‘springy’, which is perfect for prom.”
Splash of Pink is located in downtown Westport next to The Granola Bar at 275 Post Rd E. Winged Monkey is just up the road at 384 Post Rd E along with Free People at 645 Post Rd E.
While shopping in stores might be some girls’ preferences, others might prefer to look online. “I know a lot of girls look on websites like Lulu’s and Free People, but I actually found my dress on Revolve,” Amanda Troelstra ’18 said.
Knowing where to look is only the first part of the search; the second is knowing what type of dress to actually purchase. According to Today, this year’s prom dress trends are some of the “hottest trends yet”.
Today says that 2017’s dresses have to be “all about black.” They also recommend dresses that “show some shoulder” and “a little bit of sparkle.”
Lastly, their favorite trend they recommend to “the teen who loves crop tops”: separates. Wearing a classy skirt-and-shirt combo, either of the same pattern or not, is a small way to spice up your prom ensemble.
