Coleytown Company presents “Mary Poppins”
Three years after a performance of “Peter Pan” that left audiences in awe, members of Coleytown Middle School’s Coleytown Company will take flight yet again this April in “Mary Poppins.”
Coleytown Company’s Artistic Director, Benjamin Frimmer, is collaborating with flying effects company ZFX (Zealous Flying Effects) to enable cast members to soar across the stage. “I’m so excited to fly,” Anella Lefebvre, the actress playing Mary Poppins, said.
This is not Frimmer’s first time directing “Mary Poppins.” In September, he directed a production of the show at Curtain Call in Stamford. In fact, the Coleytown Company production will utilize set pieces from the Stanford production.
Professional set designer Peter Barbieri Jr., experienced stage manager Tommy DeSalvo, choreographer Daniela Sawyer and award-winning costume designer Meg Ormand, all of whom worked with Frimmer on “Mary Poppins” at Curtain Call, will be working on this Coleytown Company production.
Choreographers Michelle Berti and Julia Maggiola, pit orchestra director Chris Coogan, master carpenter Joe Fili, lighting designer Peter Petrino and seasoned vocal coach Lynn Riegler will also be assisting Frimmer.
The production staff has been quite impressed with the work ethic of the cast, which is comprised of nearly 100 students. Riegler said that while “the score is very challenging for anyone—especially middle schoolers,” the students have been “fearless and willing to work hard at it.”
Many Staples students will be attending the performance. Lydia Donovan ’19, a former member of Coleytown Company, said that she is extremely excited to see the show. “I love the show. I also know so many people in the [Coleytown production of the] show. It just makes it even more fun,” she said.
Shows are scheduled at Coleytown Middle School on April 7th at 7:00 PM, April 8th at 7:00 PM and April 9th at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Tickets are $12 plus processing fee and can be purchased online at showtix4u.com. They will be also available at the door 45 minutes prior to curtain, subject to availability.
