New releases rock, rap and dance their way up the charts

These artists released new songs this Tuesday, March 3

This Tuesday, Ariana Grande was featured in Cashmere Cat’s newest electronic hit and Taylor Swift released an additional song for her album “1989,” which was released in late October. Not only did pop princesses take the charts, but rock, EDM and rap musicians released major hits as well. Here are five of the best songs released on Tuesday, March 3:

  1. “Baby Blue” by Action Bronson feat. Chance the Rapper

Action Bronson and Chance the Rapper talk about the anger following heart-break in their collaboration on “Baby Blue,” However, as usual, it’s Chance that steals the show during the chorus and his verse. His humorous insults like, “I hope you never get off Fridays/ and work at Friday’s that’s always busy on Fridays” or “I hope there’s snow in your driveway” add some personality to Bronson’s song. Also, producer Mark Ronson, known for his hit “Uptown Funk,” adds a track that’s just as catchy as the lyrics.

  1. “Gimme All Your Love” by Alabama Shakes

This alternative band is mostly known for its soulful and vintage sound and their most popular song “Hold On.” They released the single “Gimme All Your Love” as a sample of their next album, “Sound & Color.” “Gimme All Your Love” encaptures the quintessence of the band’s sound with the predominant use of bass and guitar riffs. Lead singer and guitarist Brittany Howard also adds angst and emotion to the already powerful tune. Despite its slow start, the rest of the song builds up and ends with a bang and the poignant echoing statement “gimme all your love.”

  1. “To Ü” by Skrillex and Diplo feat. AlunaGeorge

Skrillex and Diplo, two major EDM artists, team up on the album “Skrillex and Diplo Present JackÜ.” While many songs on the album are chaotic mix of two different styles, “To Ü” is an exciting track with many complimenting factors. Skrillex’s unique sound and Diplo’s catchy repetition make for a lively beat that is ultimately balanced by AlunaGeorge’s smooth vocals. This new song is sure to be a dance-floor hit.

  1. “Adore” by Cashmere Cat feat. Ariana Grande

Up-and-coming Norwegian DJ, musician and producer Cashmere Cat is sure to gain popularity from this new single due to its leading lady on vocals. “Adore,” featuring Ariana Grande, has a different sound compared to many of the pop-princess’s radio-hits. Grande’s high-pitched vocals ride on a contrasted sound driven by deep bass and electronic-sounds. Grande will bring this song to the top of the charts, taking Cashmere Cat along with her.

  1. “New Romantics” by Taylor Swift

This week, Taylor granted us with another addition to her album “1989.” While her other installments for the deluxe edition were lackluster, “New Romantics” shines with energy and excitement. She sings about the usual Taylor topics like boys and heartbreak, but this song is her coming to terms with the fact that she is from a generation of “new romantics.” She sings, “Heartbreak is the national anthem/ We sing it proudly,” a salute to all the broken-hearted girls. Much like Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” Swift sings a fun song about how romantic girls will be romantic girls.
