If we got in a time travel machine and went back to the year 2009, everyone would be talking and quoting the newest comedy The Hangover. Who would have known that now, four years later, the final and third sequel to this movie would be released and the hype would now be gone.
I honestly wasn’t excited. I have been a fan of The Hangover but I expected that they were making the third just to get as much money out of the franchise as possible.
But the movie ended up being actually better than I expected.
The first two movies had the same basic plot. Three guys, Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), and Alan (Zach Galifianakis)wake up after a crazy night and then try and put everything back together. Add in a fourth guy missing and a crazy Asian criminal, Leslie Chow (Ken Jeong), and you’ve got the plot of the first two movies. I thought it was going to be another movie just like that.
But to my surprise, the plot was different. Finally the director, Todd Phillips, realized that using the same plot again is boring. He should have realized this before the second movie, but that’s a rant for another day.
Instead of waking up with a missing tooth or just plain missing, Phil and Stu decide to take Alan, their good friend, to a rehabilitation center because he wasn’t taking his medication. But instead a gangster named Marshall (John Goodman) stops them and orders them to find Leslie Chow (Ken Jeong), a criminal from the first two movies, in exchange for their friend Doug (Justin Bartha) whom he kidnaps.
The gang of Alan, Stu, and Phil are back, going on a crazy adventure from Mexico to Las Vegas to try and find Chow, who keeps escaping their grasps through various and hilarious twists and turns.
One of the only complaints I have of The Hangover Part III is that there was a point in the movie where strobe lights were used for about a three minutes. Ironically, it hurt my head and felt overwhelming, just like the franchise of the film.
The movie wasn’t the best one I’ve seen. There are a lot better comedy films out there, and nothing beats the first Hangover.
However, this movie brings closure to it all. Just like in the first movie , the gang goes to Las Vegas, ends up near the Caesar’s Palace hotel, and there’s even an appearance from the toddler Carlos, the baby from the first movie.
If you are a fan of “The Hangover” franchise, I would definitely recommend getting tickets to see the final film.
