After moving to America from Germany, Tessa Schroll ’13 has been interested in American music artists. She was automatically drawn to the American music scene. Schroll decided to put her passion to work by writing for Music Ninja, a music discovery site, on a daily basis.
A music discovery site is a website for anyone to check and read music reviews. These sites have both positive and negative reviews of albums, songs and artists.
According to Music Ninja’s website, its goal is to “feature the best music [they] come across.” The website claims, “We have swiftly infiltrated the ears and minds of Ke$ha fans and permanently set them on the path to better, more fulfilling music.”
Music Ninja is constantly adding new playlists. Every Tuesday a playlist called “The Indie Dojo” is released and on Fridays there is a “Get Crunk” playlist added for listeners.
Even with a busy senior year schedule, Schroll is able to add reviews to Music Ninja two to three times each day. “I try to do most of my reviews early in the morning because some tracks are released at midnight,” Schroll said. “Sometimes I will write a quick review during my free period
However, Schroll does admit that “keeping up with everything” can be difficult at times. Some days Schroll will have six or seven reviews to do.
“It is definitely important that our blog is always up to date and that we always post a song review only a few hours after it has been dropped or else we seem behind on music news,” Schroll said.
However, when Erica Stein ’13 was asked if she knew any music review websites such as Music Ninja or Camelback Music, she responded by saying, “I couldn’t even tell you what those are.” Like many teenagers, Stein finds most of her songs from the radio.
“I’m my own person and I don’t need to be told what ‘good’ music is,” Stein said. “I don’t need music websites telling me what songs I should and shouldn’t listen to.”
“I hope that people check out this blog and realize that there are so many different types of music out there and not just the Itunes Top 10 list.
