“Almost, Maine” will be a completely different experience for the audience,” said Staples Player Tyler Jent ’13.
“Almost, Maine”, the upcoming Players production, will have its opening night Thursday May 24 in the Black Box Theatre.
The romantic comedy is a compilation of scenes that take place at the same time one night in unorganized territory of Maine called Almost. Jent attributes his favorite part of the show to the charming characters that are enjoyable to play.
Like Jent, Michelle Pauker ’13 has also deeply connected to her character due to the fact that each cast member is only in one or two scenes. “It’s actually really nice because we’re able to spend more time creating our characters and making them real,” Pauker said.
Having the spring play occur not only shortly after One Act Plays and “Into the Woods” but also during AP exams, has been difficult for Jent and Pauker, but they are still confident that it will come together well. “We only have a month to rehearse, build, light, and run the show. Every day, we have up to three rehearsals going on at one time in order to get as much work done as we possibly can,” Jent said.
But for Jent, what sets the show apart from other productions is that every part is equal and everyone has a scene, in which they are featured. This equality will provide an opportunity for the widespread talent within Players to be showcased. “There’s really a lot of talent in all of the grades, and this production will definitely show it,” Pauker said.
Pushing through to meet their deadlines and perfect the show, all grades are pitching in, but the junior class especially has been stepping up within Players in order to prepare for next year. “There is a large amount of upcoming seniors in this cast that are beginning to act as leaders to prepare for next year,” Jent said.
The production of “Almost, Maine” will premiere May 24, and will close the curtains May 26.
