As a theater student, and secretary of Staples Players, Bonti knew that he ultimately wanted to direct his own studio. After participating in last years One Act Play Festival, presenting the comedic, Pillow Talk, and being a part of the cast of the successful Once On This Island, directed by Kathryn Durkin ‘11, he wanted to see if he could stand up to the challenge.
“I think I will grow as a director and a person,” says Bonti. “[Directing this show] is a daunting task and a big responsibility.”
Auditions were held this past week, and now the process is in full throttle. Taking this job on was no easy task either. Bonti is in charge of picking out audition and callback sides, contacting his performance location, making a plot for the set and staging the entire show. But behind him, he says, is a dependable team of his assistant director and producer.
“I’m most looking forward to bring it to life and seeing it from a different perspective, rather than being a fellow actor,” said assistant director Rappaport, also a member of Staples Players. “I know it’s going to be a demanding yet rewarding task.”
This completely student run show creates a new opportunity for many students. Not only does it allow students to see what the directing aspect is really like, but it gives new chances and opportunities for many student actors. “It’s very fun working with a different group of people, usually underclassmen” said Bonti. “They typically do not get cast in more competitive shows and this gives everyone a chance to be on the stage.”
Rumors will be performed at Toquet Hall in downtown Westport on March 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
“I want this show to be remembered as a successful play with talented and convincing actors,” said Bonti. “I hope I can make the audience laugh and enjoy the show.”
